What is CNC (Computer numerical control)

Computer numerical control is also known as numerical control. To understand computer numerical control, we should start from understanding numerical control.

Numerical control is the abbreviation of digital control. Numerical control technology is a method to control mechanical movement and machining process by using digital information.

Computer numerical control is also known as numerical control. To understand computer numerical control, we should start from understanding numerical control.

There were two versions in the early days:

NC (numerical control): represents the old and original numerical control technology.

CNC (computerized numerical control): new version of computer numerical control technology, the preferred abbreviation of numerical control.

NC may be CNC, but CNC is by no means the old numerical control technology.

What is CNC?

Traditional machining is carried out by manual operation of ordinary machine tools. When machining, the mechanical tool is shaken by hand to cut metal, and the accuracy of products is measured by eyes with calipers and other tools. Modern industry has long used computer digitally controlled machine tools for operations. CNC machine tools can automatically process any product and parts according to the program prepared by technicians in advance.

NC machining is widely used in all fields of machining, and it is also the development trend and important and necessary technical means of mold machining.

"CNC" is English computerized numerical control. The NC machine tool automatically processes the machined parts according to the pre programmed machining program. We compile the processing process route, process parameters, tool motion trajectory, displacement, cutting parameters and auxiliary functions of the parts into a processing program according to the instruction code and program format specified by the CNC machine tool, and then record the contents of the program list on the control medium, and then input them into the CNC device of the CNC machine tool, so as to command the machine tool to process the parts.

This whole process from the analysis of part drawings to the production of control media is called the preparation of numerical control programs. The difference between the NC machine tool and the ordinary machine tool is that the NC machine tool automatically processes parts according to the program, while the ordinary machine tool needs to be operated by people. We can process different parts by changing the program that controls the action of the machine tool.

Therefore, CNC machine tools are especially suitable for processing small batches of parts with complex shapes and high precision requirements

Because the NC machine tool needs to process parts according to the program, after the programmer has compiled the program, he will input it into the NC device to command the work of the machine tool. The program is input through the control medium.
